I recently went back to painting after a period of lapse. I am self-trained and not very experienced
in this medium, but I am trying to get more used to this medium, trying to avoid making things beautiful or too overdone,
which has been my usual trappings. I have been sketching for a while now, but not as long in terms of painting.
So my hope is that after I learn from each piece, I can become more diversified in the subject matter that I cover -
- going farther than just landscape and figures. I also enjoy using different mediums such as watercolor,
oil pastels, oil paint, ceramics, wood and collage. I have done some sculptures and may put up another section
later on.
My goal is to be able to express the themes that I am interested in, such as fagility of life, absurdity
of human state and enduring sense of hope in my paintings. Well, that is what I am attempting whether that comes through
or not. I also hope to portray organic themes, things of life, regardless of the medium I choose. If I evolve
and become better at interpreting life and its complex meanings, at least my time has not been wasted in just creating a visual
product. Some artists that have had tremendous influence on me directly are Matisse, Magritte, Degas, Da Vinci
and Hopper. And of course all the pre-raphaelite painters, who combined poetry, nature and ethics into their art.
